Professional Bio

Dan Keller combines a solid background in biology and biomedical research with academic journalism training. He earned a PhD in immunology and microbiology, did postdoctoral work in immunology and hematology, and has reported on just about all medical specialty areas from major conferences worldwide, earning both print and broadcast journalism awards.
He regularly participates in continuing education activities in both science and journalism through attendance at medical conferences, symposia for journalists, and specifically, for medical writers. Dan is a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists and the National Association of Science Writers.
He produced The State of the Heart radio series for the American Heart Association that aired nationwide on up to 1200 stations during Heart Month for three years and has hosted nationwide call-in science shows, including guest hosting Talk of the Nation Science Friday, as well as producing The Future of Medicine radio series with Ira Flatow. He has also hosted video interviews and moderated panel discussions.
Dan also produced a series of 98 podcasts on multiple sclerosis for an audience of health care professionals and researchers and currently produces the Substantial Matters podcast series for people with Parkinson’s disease and their families and care givers. Dan has written for major medical news websites, and more than 600 of his articles currently appear on Medscape. He has been an on-camera interviewer/host for various medical video productions.
Before leaving the laboratory to pursue a career in medical journalism, Dan did research in the areas of immunology, microbiology, hematology, and neuroendocrinology.
