Professional Bio

Lisa Esposito is a freelance health writer who covers medical and mental health conditions, healthy aging, medical research, health care outcomes, medical and nursing practice and how patients can receive better hospital care. With over two decades of experience, she has been a health reporter for U.S. News & World Report, Gannett and HealthDay News (freelance), and was editor of the Health Behavior News Service.

While at U.S. News, Esposito has appeared on panels, reported on and contributed to media guidelines on responsible suicide coverage at the U.S Department of Health and Human Services and the Pentagon. She won a Media Orthopaedic Reporting Excellence awards in 2016 and 2020.

Previously, Esposito worked as a registered nurse in multiple hospitals, starting at the University of Maryland Cancer Center and ending at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health.

Esposito graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and a master’s degree in journalism from Georgetown University. She is a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists.
