Professional Bio

Larry Beresford is a freelance medical journalist who specializes in hospice, palliative care, end-of-life care, serious illness care, grief and bereavement, opioid pain management and related fields. He has also contributed many pieces on all aspects of hospital medicine to The Hospitalist Magazine, Medscape and elsewhere. He authored the definitive consumer's guide to hospice care, "The Hospice Handbook: A Complete Guide" (Little, Brown & Co.), and has contributed articles to a variety of health care trade magazines and newsletters, as well as training manuals, white papers and reports. His articles have been published in the Lancet's United States of Health blog page, the Washington Post, Medscape, AARP Bulletin, KEVINMD and Healthcare Design Magazine. He lives in a 55+ cohousing community in Oakland, Calif., with his wife, Rose Mark, a writer and retired educator. They both write, publish and perform in the Bay Area's active poetry scene.
