This site is published by the Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ) and the Center for Excellence in Health Care Journalism. AHCJ is classified as a 501(c)(6), a nonprofit professional trade association, and the Center for Excellence in Health Care Journalism is classified as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3). Both organizations are located at 10 Neff Hall, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO 65211. Contents of this site, including all site and section names, logos, other graphics, organized listings, presentation strategies, interface design and other design elements, are covered by trademarks, copyrights and other intellectual and trade property rights, held jointly or separately by AHCJ and the Center for Excellence in Health Care Journalism. All rights are reserved.

Material on this site may not be copied, mirrored, cataloged, displayed simultaneously with another site in part or in whole, nor may any of its sub-programs be accessed from any page without the express written consent of the appropriate rights holder. Use of this site contractually obliges each user to these terms. News media may use portions of the content of this site and refer to its contents with appropriate credit given to the Association of Health Care Journalists.

Your Consent

By using our site, you consent to our website’s privacy policy. The information we collect helps us provide all our services to you, in advancing our mission of improving the quality, accuracy and visibility of health care reporting, writing and editing. 

What information do we collect?

The information we collect is used only to help us better serve our members and to advance AHCJ’s mission. Any information we collect is with consent and known to our members and visitors. It is our general policy to collect and store only personal information that our members and visitors provide. If our privacy policies change, we will notify all users via changes in this policy.

For General Users. AHCJ does not collect any personal information from users browsing its websites. Only aggregate data — such as the number of hits per page — is collected. Aggregate data is only used for internal and marketing purposes and does not provide any personally identifying information.

From our Members, Conference Registrants, and Other Stakeholders. To gain access to members-only resources and features, members and other users are asked to log-in and provide some information. AHCJ asks users to provide their name, email address, phone number, and mailing address. Other personal, demographic, and professional information is requested to better serve and identify opportunities for our members and direct them to both location and interest-specific programs. 

Similar information may be collected through membership and fellowship applications, conference, workshop, or event registrations, donations, and surveys. 

E-mail Services

By signing up for an AHCJ newsletter, email campaign, email list or any other form of email communication from AHCJ to its lists, you agree to have certain information saved by our email provider and contact databases.  We will collect specific information regarding what the recipient does with that email. Other information collected through tracking features include: email address of a user, name of the list from which the message was sent, and bounce and click-through rates. AHCJ only uses this information to enhance communications and distribution, so we may best identify the needs of our constituents. 

How do we use your information?

In aggregate, AHCJ uses user information to better understand the demographics, interests, and career development needs of our audience. We use data to better inform our work and programs, and to identify opportunities for users, and further diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in journalism. Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways:

  • To personalize your experience.
  • To improve our website. 
  • To improve services to our members and supporters. 
  • To process transactions. 
  • To administer a contest, promotion, survey, or other site feature.
  • To send periodic emails. (The email address you provide may be used to send you information and updates pertaining to a donation, or event-related information, in addition to receiving occasional news, e-newsletter updates, related service information, etc).

How do we protect your information?

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information when you submit or access your personal information. We use Novi AMS, WordPress and Constant Contact to collect information and Novi AMS to store the information you provide to us.  AHCJ upholds the vendor’s individual privacy policies.  AHCJ reserves the right to add additional service providers at any time.

AHCJ does not disclose or sell credit card account information provided by its members and customers. When members and supporters choose to pay using their credit cards, AHCJ submits the information needed to obtain payment to the appropriate clearinghouse with the use of a secure server, under standards of reasonable business practice. Those with access rights are required to keep the information confidential through a selected payment gateway. Only the payment processor, if chosen for recurring donations or purchases, will store your credit card information.
